What is this role about?
Electronic Design Engineer

SmartD is a team of veteran entrepreneurs seeking to disrupt the established century-old industry of electrical motor control. Based in downtown Montreal, we are a Series A-funded team building a fantastic product that will save energy and be used by millions.

With financing secured and strategic partners on board, we are focused on execution. If you are an expert in 3D drawing and thermal modeling, passionate about mechanical design, and want to work with a small, dedicated, and effective team, we invite you to join our mission.

What You Bring

Technical Expertise:

  • Advanced proficiency in CAD Design using Solidworks (assembly, detail, and packaging drawings).
  • Expertise in thermal modeling, CFD, and heat management.
  • Experience designing high-power, high-reliability systems and routing power wiring.
  • Experience in plastic molding.
  • Knowledge of mechanical durability testing (vibration/impact) and BOM generation.
  • Manual skills required – We are building our own prototypes!

Experience:

  • Proven experience in mechanical design for industrial electronics or power systems.
  • Familiarity with motor control technology is considered a strong asset.
  • Language: English (Fluent) is mandatory; French (Professional) is preferred to collaborate effectively within our Montreal environment.

Our Hiring Process

We respect your time and maintain a transparent, 3-step process:

  1. Introductory Call (20 min): A general discussion via Google Meet to align on interest and fit.
  2. Technical Discussion (30 min): A technical deep-dive with the Department Head via Google Meet.
  3. On-Site Interview (1 hour): An in-depth technical meeting with your future colleagues and a tour of our lab.
